Set a boundary before you begin
- Choose a short time limit for a learning session and stop when it ends.
- Keep play away from work, study, sleep and important responsibilities.
- Never borrow or use money needed for rent, food, bills or other essentials.
- Do not treat gaming as income or a way to repair a financial problem.
- Do not let a streak, loss or promotion decide how long you continue.
Notice when the activity is becoming harmful
Warning signs can include hiding time spent playing, repeatedly extending a session, feeling unable to stop, neglecting commitments or returning to recover a loss. You do not have to wait for a serious crisis to take a break.
A game can become disruptive even when no money is involved. Pay attention to sleep, mood and relationships as well as spending.
Practical steps for a break
- Close the app or browser session and move away from the device.
- Mute promotional messages and remove saved shortcuts that trigger another session.
- Use device app limits or blocking tools that you trust.
- Tell someone you trust what is happening and ask for help maintaining the boundary.
- If a service offers account closure or self-exclusion through a verified channel, review that option. Do not assume every app offers it.
Ask for support when you need it
A trusted person, qualified local mental-health professional or healthcare provider can help you work out the next step. If you feel in immediate danger, contact your local emergency service. This portal is not a treatment service and cannot assess an individual situation.
For a suspected scam or unauthorised transaction, preserve records and contact the relevant bank or payment provider using a genuine channel. India’s National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal ↗ is a government reporting resource.
